What Is ElevenLabs? AI Voice Generation and Cloning

ElevenLabs.io is an AI voice platform that generates lifelike speech, clones voices, and produces long-form audio content across 32 languages. It is my favourite voice-cloning app: easy to use and delivering excellent quality voice generation.

The main use cases are as follows:

Audiobook Production: Transform written content into engaging audiobooks with personalised narration.

Multilingual Dubbing: Dub videos and films into multiple languages using cloned voices.

Virtual Assistants: Enhance user interaction with lifelike voice responses.

Content Creation: Generate voiceovers for podcasts, videos, and advertisements.

The price is quite affordable for the quality of the AI voices that can be used in conversational and multilingual AI. You can even start for free, and the recommended Creator plan is $11/mo and includes Professional Voice Cloning - see the ElevenLabs pricing page.

Update: ElevenLabs has revised its credit allowances and some plan prices since this post was first published, most recently around the Eleven v4 launch in September 2026. The table below reflects what elevenlabs.io/pricing showed as of October 2026 — check that page directly before buying, since these numbers move.

Text-to-Speech (TTS)

ElevenLabs.io is a great tool for converting written text into natural-sounding speech across 32 languages. ElevenLabs.io’ TTS models, such as Eleven Multilingual v2 and Eleven Flash v2.5, provide nuanced intonation, pacing, and emotional expression.

These models are ideal for audiobooks, advertisements, and real-time streaming applications.

Update: since I first wrote this, ElevenLabs has shipped two newer model generations that go well beyond 32 languages: Eleven v3 (generally available from February 2026, 70+ languages) and Eleven v4 (launched September 2026, 90+ languages, with stronger emotional range and multi-speaker dialogue). Multilingual v2 and Flash v2.5 are still available and still solid choices for long-form stability and low-latency streaming respectively, but if language coverage or emotional nuance matters most to you, check the newer models first.

Voice Cloning
