Introduction
A few weeks ago I explained why some of my tutorials are gated and walked through how to unlock them: subscribe, wait for an email asking you to set a password, log in, then go back and reopen the post. Four steps to read one article. My husband tried it recently and got stuck on step three - which told me everything I needed to know.
So I removed it. As of today, the link in your newsletter opens the full article directly. No password, no account, nothing to remember.
What used to happen
The old flow worked, technically. You subscribed, got an email inviting you to set a password, logged into the app, and only then could you read a gated post. It made sense on paper - a real account meant I could track who had access. In practice, it was a wall between βI clicked a link in an emailβ and βI am reading the thing I wanted to read,β and most people quite reasonably did not climb it.
What changes today
Every gated-post link in your newsletter now carries a personal key, invisible in the text you read, baked into the link itself. Click it, and the article opens - already unlocked. No login screen, no password to invent and immediately forget.
Why did I build a second gate around simply reading an article? Because βprove who you areβ and βread this textβ are different problems, and I had been solving the easy one (reading) with the tool built for the hard one (an account system). A personal link solves reading directly.
Do you need to do anything?
No. Nothing at all. Your next newsletter - or a resend of one you already have sitting in your inbox - will carry a working link automatically. This applies whether you subscribed yesterday or years ago; I did not need your account to already exist for this to work.
Login still works too
I have not removed logins - they are still there for two reasons. First, if you want to browse the blog on a whim rather than wait for the next newsletter to land in your inbox, logging in once still unlocks everything for that session. Second, your account gives you access to the AI apps directory with the AI tools I selected.
A short checklist
- Open your next newsletter and click any gated-post link.
- The article should open fully - no login prompt.
- Still want to browse without waiting for an email? Log in as before, same as ever.
- Something not opening? Reply to the newsletter and tell me - I would genuinely like to know.
Final thoughts
I would rather spend my engineering effort on writing tutorials worth reading than on making you fight your way to them. If you subscribed to read, you should just get to read. That is the whole point of todayβs change.
